STATE-OF-THE-ART TECHNOLOGY
______________________________________________________________________________________

FAMILY EYE CENTER IS DEDICATED TO PROVIDING THE LATEST IN STATE-OF-THE-ART TECHNOLOGY. THIS TECHNOLOGY ALLOWS US TO PROVIDE THE BEST POSSIBLE SERVICE TO EACH OF OUR PATIENTS. The following listing provides a brief overview of the technology that we use each day. Please call us at 334.566.2020 if you have additional questions.

FDT
This is a screening visual field device that detects loss of one’s peripheral vision.  Useful in screening patients for abnormalities like glaucoma, stroke, aneurysms, pituitary tumors, and drooping eyelids.

Optomap
The Optomap is a laser assisted retinal imaging device that, in many cases, ELIMINATES THE NEED FOR DILATION.  It is the only instrument of its kind in Pike County and allows for a 200 degree view of a patient’s retina – and all without the irritating drops!

Izon
This sophisticated instrument is able to analyze your prescription in unique way and is able to allow our doctors to prescribe lenses that have been described as “high definition” lenses.  Those who struggle with night vision find these lenses to be a “wow” factor.  It is the only instrument of its kind in the area.

Retinal Camera
Our retinal camera is able to capture digital images of your retina so that our doctors are able to accurately document abnormalities in your eye health.  It is extremely useful in documenting diseases that damage the retina such as diabetes, hypertension, glaucoma, and macular degeneration.

OCT
The OCT is a highly specialized instrument that takes laser scans of the retinal layers in order to detect subtleties that lie below the retina which can often go undetected.  It allows our doctors to more definitively diagnose diseases such as macular degeneration and glaucoma and often, alerts them to early changes in the retina so as to help ward off potential threats to your vision.
Humphrey VF
The Humphrey Visual Field is the gold standard in our profession for measuring defects in your peripheral vision.  It serves the same function as the FDT, however, on a far more detailed level.
Topographer
The topographer is useful in detecting problems with the cornea.  It takes several digital photos and produces a map of the contours of your cornea.  This allows our doctors to more accurately fit the “hard-to-fit” contact lens patient.  In addition, we are able to monitor corneal diseases with this instrument like keratoconus and Fuch’s dystrophy.
Macuscope
The macuscope is cutting edge technology that allows our doctors to assess one’s risk for developing macular degeneration in the future by measuring pigment levels in the back of the eye.  This technology was just recently released and we were the first in Pike County to own this instrument.  If  it is determined that you are at risk, our doctors then can make recommendations as to how to minimize your risks of developing macular degeneration.
GDX
This instrument is able to detect subtle changes in the nerve fibers of the optic nerve.  It does so by scanning the retina with a sophisticated laser to determine thicknesses of the nerve fibers.  The GDX is useful in monitoring glaucoma patients and can alert our doctors to potential problems up to five years earlier than previous methods of assessment.
